We hit the waters of the Thu Bon River and travel to its estuary. The waterway is pretty large but sometimes very shallow; people can pull nets to fish simply walking on the bottom of the river. We reach the freshwater coconut mangrove of Cam Thanh after about 30 minutes; turn off the boat engine and use rowing paddles. This place needs silence to be fully appreciated. It suddenly feels like we are in the arroyos of the Mekong delta, the mangrove is thick and takes us away from everything for a little while. Our next stop will be a bamboo workshop where you’ll meet a talented craftsman, learn about his family daily life and amazing bamboo product, and it’s time for your own product under his guidance. Lunch will be served at a local house in a quiet Cam Thanh area. In the afternoon, we’ll get on about an hour cycling to a village that is famous across the country for its herbs and plants cultures. A farmer who will later take us around and introduce the different plants welcomes us. At about 4pm, we get back on the waters and head to the town again. We end the day in style, entering the old quarter through its waterway while the sunsets. We see you off at An Hoi pier around 5pm. Meals: B, L

My Son & Drive to Hue

08:00 AM - Drive about 50km from Hoi An to the My Son sanctuary. This was the site for religious ceremonies of kings of the Champa dynasty, and was also a burial place for Champa’s royalty and national heroes. The My Son temples are one of the largest Hindu complexes in Southeast Asia and are a premier heritage in Vietnam. Though much of the complex has been destroyed over time, we can still see many majestic ruins of temples and learn what archaeologists can tell us about the deep history in this area. Afterwards, we head back to Hoi An for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we continue driving to Hue via the dramatic Hai Van pass. The panoramic views are excellent - you should be able to see Lang Co beach and village, and the lagoon far below, with the city of Hue spread out before you to the north.
